A TPWD Annual Public Hunting Permit Opens State Lands

Hunters who want access to state-managed public lands in Texas can buy a TPWD Annual Public Hunting permit for a set yearly fee.

Texas Parks and Wildlife manages over 180 hunting areas across more than a million acres statewide. One permit opens access to all of them: the Annual Public Hunting (APH) Permit.

The APH permit lets you hunt white-tailed deer, feral hogs, dove, quail, turkey, waterfowl, and other game on state-managed lands. It is a flat annual fee. Check TPWD's website for the current price, since it can change.

Before you buy the permit, use TPWD's public hunting search tool to see which areas are available in or near Hidalgo County. Some areas have extra rules or require a separate drawing. Make sure there is a place to hunt near you before paying for the permit.
