Two Offices Handle Your Property Tax — Know Which Does What

Bastrop Central Appraisal District sets your property value; the Bastrop County Tax Assessor-Collector sends your bill and collects payment.

In Texas, two separate offices deal with your property tax. Bastrop CAD (bastropcad.org) appraises every property in the county and processes exemptions. If you think your appraisal is too high, you protest with Bastrop CAD. The Tax Assessor-Collector's office (bastroptac.com) sends tax bills, collects payments, and handles vehicle registration.

Bastrop CAD is located at 212 Jackson Street, Bastrop, TX 78602, phone (512) 303-1930. The Tax Assessor-Collector has multiple office locations in the county — check bastropcounty.gov for current hours and addresses.

Confusing the two is common. If you want to dispute your value or apply for an exemption, go to Bastrop CAD. If you need to pay a tax bill or register a car, go to the Tax Assessor-Collector. Protest deadlines and exemption deadlines are different, so check each office's website or call before any deadline.
