Two Offices Handle Your Property Tax in Howard County
Howard County has two separate offices for property taxes — the appraisal district sets your value, and the tax assessor-collector sends your bill.
The Howard County Appraisal District (HCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. That value is set each year. If you think the value is wrong, you can protest it with HCAD. The appraisal district is at 315 S. Main St. in Big Spring.
A separate office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — sends the actual tax bills and collects payments. These two offices are different and handle different steps. If you have a question about your bill amount or payment, contact the Tax Assessor-Collector. If you have a question about your appraised value or exemptions, contact HCAD.
