Deer Hunting Has a Set Bag Limit for Hidalgo County

White-tailed deer hunting in Hidalgo County is governed by South Zone rules, with a bag limit of 5 deer and no more than 3 bucks per season.

In the 2025-2026 season, Hidalgo County is in the South Zone for white-tailed deer. The archery season runs late September through October. The general season runs November through mid-January. A special late season runs into early February.

You may take up to 5 deer total, with no more than 3 bucks. Some private ranches use MLDP tags—those are special tags from TPWD's Managed Lands Deer Program that let landowners manage their deer herd more closely.

Always check the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt. Seasons and limits can change from year to year.
