Hunting Regulations

Deer hunting in Dawson County has specific buck rules you must know

Dawson County hunters can take white-tailed and mule deer, but state rules limit how many and what kind of buck is legal.

Dawson County is in the North Zone for white-tailed deer. The bag limit is 3 deer total per season — no more than 1 buck and no more than 2 antlerless. For mule deer, a buck must have an outside antler spread of 20 inches or greater to be legal. The county also has regulated seasons for dove, quail, turkey, javelina, waterfowl, and sandhill cranes.

Season dates and bag limits can change from year to year. Always check the current Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Annual before you hunt. A valid Texas hunting license is required. You can buy one online at the TPWD website or at licensed retailers statewide. Most land in Dawson County is private, so make sure you have landowner permission.
