Johnson County Flood Maps Were Updated in 2023

FEMA finalized new flood maps for Johnson County in 2023 — if you are buying property near a creek or river, check the current map before you close.

FEMA flood maps show which areas face the highest risk of flooding. They also determine whether your mortgage lender requires flood insurance. Johnson County's maps became final in 2023, so older maps may not reflect current flood zones.

You can look up any address on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center at msc.fema.gov. Properties near the Nolan River, the Brazos River, or low-lying areas are most likely to be in a flood zone. Even if your property is outside the official flood zone, flooding can still happen — standard homeowner insurance does not cover floods.
