Borden County Has Good Hunting Including Mule Deer and Pronghorn
Borden County sits in a zone where both white-tailed deer and mule deer can be hunted, and pronghorn antelope permits are available by application for qualifying areas.
Under TPWD rules, Borden County is in the North Zone for white-tailed deer and the Panhandle zone for mule deer. Hunters can take both types of deer in the same county during overlapping archery and general seasons. That is unusual — most Texas counties do not allow both. The county also has open seasons for javelina, quail, turkey, and various migratory birds.
Pronghorn hunting requires a permit. TPWD issues permits to landowners in areas with huntable pronghorn populations. The Permian Basin and Panhandle are among the places where those permits are given out. If you want to hunt pronghorn, contact TPWD well ahead of the season.
Almost all hunting in Borden County is on private land. You need the landowner's permission to hunt. There is limited or no TPWD public hunting land in the county. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual for season dates, bag limits, and legal gear before going out. Rules can change from year to year.
