Jacob's Well requires a reservation for swimming and is run by the county
Jacob's Well Natural Area near Wimberley is a spring-fed swimming hole managed by Hays County that requires advance reservations in summer.
Jacob's Well is a natural spring opening in the bed of Cypress Creek near Wimberley at 1699 Mt. Sharp Rd. When open, swimming runs May 1 through September 30 by reservation only — walk-ups are not accepted, and fees apply. Swimming has been suspended since 2022 due to low water levels caused by drought and increased pumping from the Trinity Aquifer, and as of 2026 the suspension remains in place.
You do not need a reservation to hike the natural area year-round. The park is open daily 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (no entry after 5:30 p.m.). To check whether swimming has reopened or to get current information, contact the Hays County Parks Department at 512-214-4593 or visit hayscountytx.gov.
