Pat Mayse WMA Offers Public Hunting and Hiking

An 8,925-acre wildlife management area on the west side of Pat Mayse Reservoir is open to the public for hunting, fishing, and hiking.

Pat Mayse WMA covers 8,925 acres in northern Lamar County, about 11 miles northwest of Paris. It sits in the Post Oak Savannah region and includes roughly 4,900 acres of hardwood timber, 2,500 acres of old fields, and 1,500 acres of water. TPWD manages it for deer, waterfowl, and other wildlife.

The area is open year-round except when closed for special permit hunts. You can hunt, fish, camp, hike, and ride horses. ATVs are not allowed. Many interior roads are rough logging trails that need four-wheel drive. There are no restrooms, drinking water, or staff on site. Check with TPWD for current permit requirements before you go: (903) 905-2207.
