Two Offices Handle Property Tax in Shackelford County

Shackelford County has a separate appraisal district and tax assessor-collector office, and the tax office does not collect property taxes directly.

The Shackelford County Appraisal District sets the value of your property each year. It is located at 132 Hill St. in Albany. If you think your value is wrong, you can file a protest with this office. The general deadline to file is May 15 each year (or the 30th day after your notice of appraised value is delivered, whichever is later), but check the appraisal district's tax calendar for the current deadline.

The Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office at 225 S. Main St. in Albany. The Comptroller's directory notes that this office does not collect property taxes. That means the appraisal district may handle tax collection for some or all local taxes. If you owe taxes or need to pay, confirm with the appraisal district which office to contact. Both offices are reachable through the county's official sites listed below.
