Property Tax

Who handles your property tax in Yoakum County

Two separate offices handle property taxes here — one sets your value, the other collects the bill.

The Yoakum County Appraisal District sets the value of your property each year. It is located at 500 Cowboy Way in Plains. This office does not collect taxes — it just decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. If you think your value is wrong, you can protest it here.

A separate office, the Tax Assessor-Collector, sends the tax bills and takes your payments. That office is also in Plains, at 609 Cowboy Way. For homestead exemptions — which can lower what you owe — you file with the appraisal district, not the tax office. The general filing deadline is April 30 each year, but confirm the current deadline with the district directly.
