How the Briscoe County Appraisal District Works
The Briscoe County Appraisal District appraises all property in the county, while a separate tax assessor-collector handles billing and collection — and you can lower your tax bill with a homestead exemption if this is your primary residence.
In Briscoe County, two offices handle property taxes. The Briscoe County Appraisal District (BCAD) sets the appraised value of your land and buildings. A separate Tax Assessor-Collector office then calculates the tax bill and collects payments. Both offices are at 415 Main St. in Silverton.
If the home you own is your primary residence, you likely qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces your taxable value. To apply, file with the appraisal district — not the tax office — and include a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing the property address. The Texas Comptroller's office lists all available exemption types at comptroller.texas.gov.
Property owners who disagree with their appraised value can file a protest. Deadlines and procedures change year to year, so check the BCAD website or call 806-823-2161 for current dates. The Texas Comptroller also publishes the statewide county directory at comptroller.texas.gov if you need quick contact information.
