Property tax
Austin County has two separate property tax offices
The appraisal district values your property and collects taxes. The tax assessor-collector handles vehicle titles and registration. They are different offices at different addresses.
Austin County has two separate property tax offices. Most Texas counties split the work differently, but not here.
The Austin County Appraisal District (ACAD) is at 906 E. Amelia St. in Bellville. ACAD does three things: it values your property, processes exemptions, and collects property taxes.
The tax assessor-collector office is at 804 E. Wendt St. in Bellville. That office handles vehicle titles and registrations. It does not collect property taxes.
If you bought a home and want to file a homestead exemption, go to ACAD — not the tax assessor-collector. A homestead exemption lowers your taxable value. It is free to apply for. You will need a copy of your driver's license showing your address at the property.
Extra exemptions are available for people 65 and older, disabled persons, and disabled veterans. Tax statements are usually mailed in October. Unpaid taxes become delinquent on February 1.
Check with ACAD for current exemption amounts, protest deadlines, and payment options. Those details can change year to year.
