Who handles property taxes in Starr County
Two separate offices handle property taxes here — one sets your value, the other collects the bill.
The Starr County Appraisal District (SCAD) sets the appraised value of every property in the county. That value is used by the county, three school districts (Rio Grande City, San Isidro, and Roma), and the City of Roma to calculate what you owe. SCAD is at 100 N. FM 3167, Suite 300, in Rio Grande City.
A separate office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — actually sends the bills and takes your payments. That office is in the same building, Suite 201. If you think your appraised value is wrong, you file a protest with the appraisal district, not the tax office. The Texas Comptroller lists contact details for both offices.
