Appraisal Protest
You Have the Right to Protest Your Property's Appraised Value
If you think the Hidalgo Appraisal District overvalued your property, you can file a protest and get a hearing before an independent review board.
Each year, the appraisal district mails notices of appraised value. If you disagree with the value, you can file a protest with the Appraisal Review Board (ARB)—a panel independent of the appraisal district. The deadline to file is printed on your notice, so read it as soon as it arrives.
You can protest in person, by phone, or in some cases online. Bring evidence that supports a lower value, such as recent sales of comparable properties. The Texas Comptroller's office publishes a guide to the protest process on its website.
