No Safety Inspection Required for Personal Vehicles in Bailey County

Since January 2025, Texas no longer requires a safety inspection for most personal vehicles. Bailey County is not an emissions-testing county, so you just pay a $7.50 fee at registration.

You do not need a safety inspection to register a personal vehicle in Bailey County. Texas dropped that rule for non-commercial vehicles on January 1, 2025. That change came from House Bill 3297. Now you just pay a $7.50 fee when you register or renew.

Bailey County is not an emissions-testing county either. Emissions tests only apply in about 17 to 18 large metro counties. Those include Harris, Dallas, Tarrant, Travis, and Bexar. Muleshoe and Bailey County are not on that list.

Commercial vehicles are different. They still need an annual safety inspection in every Texas county. If you own a large truck or commercial vehicle, that rule still applies to you. Check the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles website or the Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle inspection page for current fees and deadlines.
