You Need a Permit Before Drilling a Water Well
Polk County is in the Lower Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, which requires you to register a new well before you drill.
If you plan to drill a water well in Polk County, you must get a registration permit first. The Lower Trinity Groundwater Conservation District (LTGCD) manages groundwater in this area. Contact them at 936-327-9531 or visit ltgcd.org for forms.
The county's permits department also lists water well registration as a required permit. If you are building a home on rural land and plan to use a well for water, factor this step into your timeline before breaking ground. Getting the permit after drilling can create problems.
