Johnson County Sits in Tornado and Hail Country

Johnson County is in the heart of North Texas severe weather territory — tornadoes, large hail, and flash floods are real risks for anyone living here.

The DFW area, including Johnson County, sees active severe weather in spring and early fall. Tornadoes, large hail, and damaging straight-line winds are the main hazards. Hail can damage roofs and vehicles frequently enough that insurance rates reflect it.

Standard homeowner insurance typically covers wind and hail damage, but does NOT cover flooding. If your property is near a creek or river, ask your agent about flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Check weather.gov for current forecasts and alerts from the National Weather Service Fort Worth office.
