Agricultural Tax Exemption
Farmers and ranchers can get a sales tax exemption on many purchases
Texas offers a sales and use tax exemption on many farm and ranch supplies — but you need a valid Ag/Timber Number from the Comptroller first.
If you raise crops, cattle, or timber for sale, you may qualify for the Texas agricultural and timber exemption. This exemption removes the state sales tax from qualifying equipment, feed, seed, and other farm supplies. It also applies to some vehicle purchases used in farm work.
You must get an Ag/Timber Number from the Texas Comptroller before you can claim the exemption. Give this number to the seller at the time of purchase. The number must be renewed periodically. Visit the Comptroller's website to apply or renew.
