Agricultural Appraisal
Ag Valuation Can Cut Your Property Tax Bill in Comal County
Land used for farming, ranching, or wildlife management may be taxed on its productive value — which is often far lower than market value.
Texas law lets land that is actively used for agriculture be taxed on what it can produce, not on what it would sell for. This can make a big difference in rural Comal County, where land values have risen sharply.
The land must have been used for farming, ranching, or timber for at least five of the last seven years. Wildlife management is also allowed if the land already had an ag valuation. The Comal Appraisal District has its own guidelines for what counts. Check their site for the current standards before applying.
