Two Offices Handle Property Tax in Erath County
The appraisal district sets your property value, but a separate tax office actually bills and collects what you owe.
In Erath County, two offices handle property taxes. The Erath County Appraisal District (ECAD) figures out what your property is worth. Separate taxing units — the county, school districts, and cities — then set their own tax rates based on that value. The Tax Assessor-Collector sends the bill and collects the money.
If you think your value is wrong, you protest with ECAD — not with the tax office. ECAD is at 1195 W. South Loop in Stephenville. The Tax Assessor-Collector is at 222 E. College St. Erath County has 17 active taxing units, including 13 school districts, so your total rate depends on exactly where your land sits.
