Two offices handle property taxes in Hale County
Hale County splits property tax duties between two offices, which can confuse new property owners.
The Hale County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. It also handles exemptions. But for Hale County, the appraisal district may also collect property taxes directly. The Texas Comptroller notes that the county tax assessor-collector in Hale County does not collect property taxes.
If you get a tax bill or have a payment question, contact the Hale County Appraisal District first. Their office is at 302 W. 8th St. in Plainview. You can also reach them at 806-293-4226 or visit halecad.org. The county tax assessor-collector handles vehicle registration and other services from the Courthouse Annex at 521 Broadway St.
