Balmorhea State Park has a large spring-fed pool open to swimmers
Balmorhea State Park in Toyahvale features a spring-fed pool fed by San Solomon Springs, open year-round for swimming and scuba diving.
Balmorhea State Park sits in Toyahvale, in the southeastern part of Reeves County. The park is built around San Solomon Springs, which flows at more than 15 million gallons per day. The pool covers 1.3 acres and reaches 25 feet deep. The water stays between 72 and 76 degrees year-round, so people swim here even in winter.
The park also has restored desert wetlands called cienegas. Two small endangered fish — the Pecos gambusia and the Comanche Springs pupfish — live only in these waters. Camping, bird watching, and scuba diving are all allowed. The park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Reservations are strongly recommended from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Check the TPWD website for current fees and availability.
