The Bee County Courthouse: A Beaux Arts Landmark in Beeville
The 1913 Bee County Courthouse in Beeville was restored with state funding through the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.
Bee County was created in 1857 from portions of five neighboring counties, and its county seat — Beeville — has been home to four courthouses. The current courthouse on the square was built in 1913 in the Beaux Arts style. It features a central dome, a grand entry portico, and tan-gray brick with red clay tile roofing.
The courthouse was selected for the Texas Historical Commission's courthouse preservation program, which funded a $3.8 million restoration. Work included window rehabilitation, dome tile repairs, masonry restoration, and recreation of the original pressed-metal ceiling in the district courtroom. The building was rededicated on May 20, 2006.
The courthouse square in downtown Beeville is worth a stop if you are passing through. The building is still an active county courthouse.
