Homestead Exemption Basics in Bee County
Texas homeowners in Bee County can reduce their taxable home value through a free homestead exemption filed with the Bee Central Appraisal District.
If you own and live in your home in Bee County, you can apply for a residence homestead exemption. This cuts the taxable value of your home, which lowers your property tax bill. The exemption covers your main home only — not a vacation house or rental.
Extra exemptions are available if you are age 65 or older, have a disability, or are a disabled veteran. These can be stacked on top of the standard homestead exemption. Seniors and disabled homeowners may also qualify for a tax deferral, letting you postpone tax collection on your primary residence.
The application deadline is set by state law — you must file before May 1 of the tax year. Check the Bee Central Appraisal District website or call them if you are unsure. The application is always free. If someone charges you to file it, that is a scam. The appraisal district office is at 401 N. Washington St., Beeville.
