Two separate offices handle appraisal and tax collection in Bowie County

The Bowie Central Appraisal District sets property values, while a separate Tax Assessor-Collector handles billing — knowing which office to call saves confusion.

Two offices handle different parts of your property tax in Bowie County. The Bowie Central Appraisal District (BCAD) decides what your property is worth and handles exemption applications. Call BCAD at 903-793-8936 or visit bowieappraisal.com. The Bowie County Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office. It handles vehicle registration and does not collect property taxes directly.

Bowie County has many taxing units. Besides the county itself, there are more than a dozen school districts — including Texarkana, New Boston, DeKalb, and Hooks. There is also the Texarkana Community College District, several cities, and six Emergency Service Districts. Each unit sets its own tax rate. Your total property tax bill adds up all those rates applied to your assessed value.

The Texas Comptroller's county directory for Bowie County lists every active taxing unit with phone numbers and addresses. That is the place to start if you want to know who is taxing you and how to reach them.
