You can protest your property appraisal every year in Bowie County

Texas law gives every property owner the right to challenge their appraisal each year by filing a protest with the Appraisal Review Board before the deadline.

If you think the Bowie Central Appraisal District valued your property too high, you can file a protest. The usual deadline is May 15 or 30 days after the district mails your Notice of Appraised Value — whichever is later. Miss the deadline and you wait another year.

Your protest goes to the Appraisal Review Board (ARB). The ARB is an independent panel — it is separate from the appraisal district. Before your formal hearing, you can ask for an informal meeting with the district to try to settle without a hearing. At the ARB hearing, you show your evidence. That could be photos, recent sales of similar homes, repair estimates, or a recent appraisal. The district shows its evidence too.

The ARB ruling only covers the current tax year. If you still disagree, you can appeal through district court or binding arbitration. The Texas Comptroller's website has a plain-language guide to the whole process. Contact the Bowie Central Appraisal District at bowieappraisal.com or 903-793-8936 to confirm current deadlines.
