The Brazos River Runs Along the Western Edge of the County
The Brazos River forms Waller County's western border and is the main surface water feature — useful for fishing, but subject to flooding and access limits.
The Brazos is the county's most important waterway. Fishing for catfish, bass, and other species is popular. However, most riverbank land is privately owned. Public access points are limited — check TPWD's public access listings before you go.
The Brazos also floods. The river has a history of major rises that affect bottomland farms and low-lying roads. After heavy rain events upstream, water levels can rise quickly. Waller County and smaller creeks — Clear, Spring, Walnut, and Cedar — drain into the river system. The Texas Water Development Board published a detailed water resources report for the county that covers these waterways.
