Two Separate Offices Handle Your Property Taxes

In Waller County, one office sets your home's value and another collects the taxes — you need to know which is which.

The Waller County Appraisal District (WCAD) decides what your property is worth for tax purposes. It does not collect taxes. WCAD is at 900 13th St. in Hempstead. If you think your value is wrong, you protest with WCAD.

The Waller County Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office at 730 9th St. in Hempstead. That office sends bills, collects payments, and handles vehicle registration. There are about 48 active taxing units in the county — school districts, cities, and utility districts — each setting its own rate.
