Windstorm Insurance: What Kenedy County Homeowners Need to Know
Kenedy County is one of 14 Texas coastal counties where the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) can cover your home if private insurers won't.
Kenedy County sits along the Gulf Coast. That means hurricane wind damage is a real risk. Most private insurers either will not cover wind here or charge very high rates. TWIA is the state-backed option of last resort.
To qualify, you must first be turned down by at least one private insurer that actively writes windstorm policies in coastal Texas. Your home also needs to meet Texas building code standards. Newer construction must have a certificate from the Texas Department of Insurance or TWIA showing it was built to code. Visit twia.org or contact your insurance agent to check current rates and eligibility rules, since those can change.
