Hunting and Outdoor Access in Davy Crockett National Forest
Most of Davy Crockett National Forest sits in Houston County, giving residents and visitors open access for hunting, hiking, and fishing.
Davy Crockett National Forest covers more than 160,000 acres in Houston and Trinity counties. The general forest land is open to hunting. You only need a valid Texas hunting or fishing license to use it. You do not need to own land or pay an access fee.
The Alabama Creek Wildlife Management Area is located inside the national forest. Hunting there requires an additional Texas Annual Public Hunting Permit (also called a Type II permit), available from Texas Parks and Wildlife. Check the TPWD public lands map booklet for current season dates and bag limits before you go, since rules change each year.
