Deer hunting rules in Atascosa County

Atascosa County is in the South Zone for white-tailed deer with a bag limit of five deer total and antler restriction rules hunters should know before they go.

Atascosa County is in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) South Zone for white-tailed deer. The bag limit is five deer total across all seasons, with no more than two bucks. Of those two bucks, only one may have an inside antler spread of 13 inches or greater. A legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler or an inside spread of 13 inches or greater.

Seasons include an archery-only period, a general season, and youth-only seasons. You need an Archery Endorsement to hunt with a bow. After you take a deer, you must report the harvest. Use the Texas Hunt and Fish mobile app or the TPWD online system to report.

Season dates, bag limits, and antler rules can change each year. Always check the current Outdoor Annual on the TPWD website before you hunt. The county-level page lists any special rules that apply to Atascosa County.
