Hunting Regulations

Deer hunting in this county has a specific antler rule

Matagorda County has a four-deer bag limit, but only one of your two bucks can have a wide antler spread — check TPWD for current season dates.

For the 2025-2026 season, hunters in Matagorda County may take up to four deer total: no more than two bucks and two antlerless deer across all seasons combined. A buck is legal if it has at least one unbranched antler, or an inside spread of 13 inches or greater.

However, only ONE of your two bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or greater. This antler restriction is specific to this county. Seasons include archery in late September, a general season starting in November, plus youth and muzzleloader seasons in January. Always confirm current dates and rules on the TPWD outdoor annual.
