Deer Hunting in San Augustine County: Public Land and Rules
San Augustine County is in the Texas North Zone for deer and includes parts of the Sabine National Forest where public hunting is allowed with required permits.
San Augustine County is in the Texas North Zone for deer hunting. The general season usually runs from November through early January. Hunters can take four deer total. No more than two bucks and two antlerless deer are allowed across all seasons combined. Antler rules also apply: only one buck may have an inside spread of 13 inches or more.

Parts of the Sabine National Forest are inside San Augustine County. You can hunt on National Forest land, but the rules are different from private land. During certain times, antlerless deer are restricted on National Forest Service land.
All hunters need a valid Texas hunting license. If you hunt on Motor Plantation WMA or other Wildlife Management Areas, you also need an Annual Public Hunting Permit. For current access details, call the Sabine Ranger District at 409-625-1940.
