Deer Hunting in Duval County Follows South Zone Rules
Duval County is in the Texas South Zone for deer hunting, which means longer seasons and a bag limit of five deer per year.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department places Duval County in the South Zone. Hunters may take up to 5 deer per season, with no more than 3 being bucks. The general season runs from early November through mid-January. Archery-only season starts in late September. There are also youth-only seasons in October and January.
A special late season runs from late January into early February. During that period, only antlerless deer or bucks with unbranched antlers may be taken. All harvests must be reported through the Texas Hunt and Fish app or online. Seasons and limits can change each year — always confirm with the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.
