Who Sets Your Property Tax Bill in Duval County
Two separate offices handle property taxes in Duval County — one sets the value, and one collects the money.
The Duval County Appraisal District sets the taxable value of your property each year. It is located at 100 W. Gravis St. in San Diego. The appraisal district is separate from the Tax Assessor-Collector, which actually sends the bills and collects payment. The tax office is at 100 S. Bexar St. in San Diego.
If you think your property is valued too high, you file a protest with the appraisal district — not the tax office. The deadline is generally May 1, or 30 days after you receive your notice, whichever is later. Check with the appraisal district to confirm current deadlines, since they can change.
