Deer Hunting in Terrell County: Two Species, Different Rules
Terrell County has both white-tailed and mule deer, and each species has its own season dates and bag limits set by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Terrell County sits in mule deer country. Both white-tailed deer and mule deer live here, and Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) sets different rules for each. For the 2025-26 season, mule deer hunting in Terrell County (along with Brewster and Pecos counties) allows a bag limit of 2 deer but only 1 buck. A legal mule deer buck must have an outside antler spread of 20 inches or greater.
White-tailed deer follow North Zone rules: a combined bag limit of 5 deer, no more than 2 bucks, across all seasons. Archery season runs from late September through October, and the general season runs through early January. Javelina, quail, and spring turkey are also huntable here. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual before your hunt — seasons and rules can change each year.
