Flood Zones

Check FEMA flood maps before buying property near creeks or the lake in Rockwall County

Parts of Rockwall County along creeks and the East Fork Trinity River sit in FEMA-designated flood zones that require flood insurance for federally backed mortgages.

FEMA maintains official Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for Rockwall County. Properties in a Special Flood Hazard Area (Zone A or AE) have a 1% or greater chance of flooding each year. If you have a federally backed mortgage on such a property, your lender will require flood insurance.

Rockwall County's official website has a dedicated flood information page. You can search any address at the FEMA Flood Map Service Center (msc.fema.gov) to see what flood zone applies. Even properties outside a mapped flood zone can flood — flood insurance is available to anyone, not just those required to buy it. Check maps before making an offer on any home near the lake shoreline, the East Fork Trinity River, or local creeks.
