Local Identity

Floresville calls itself the Peanut Capital of Texas — and has since 1938

Floresville, the Wilson County seat, developed peanuts as a major cash crop around 1915 and has held an annual Peanut Festival since 1938.

Peanuts became a key crop in the Floresville area around 1915. Residents later nicknamed the town the 'Peanut Capital of Texas.' The annual Peanut Festival, started in 1938, typically draws tens of thousands of visitors each fall to the county seat.

Floresville sits about 30 miles southeast of San Antonio. It was chosen as the county seat in 1873, near the center of the county, after years of disputes about where the seat should go. Today it remains the commercial and government hub of Wilson County.
