Drilling a water well in Wilson County requires a permit

Wilson County is fully inside the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District, which regulates water wells and requires permits for most new drilling.

All of Wilson County is inside the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District (EUWCD). The district also covers Atascosa, Frio, and Karnes counties.

Its main job is to protect the Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer and other underground water sources. Many rural residents depend on those sources for drinking water and irrigation.

If you want to drill a new well — or deepen or change an existing one — you likely need a permit from Evergreen before work starts. The district divides wells into exempt and permitted types.

Check their rules before you hire a driller. Their office is in Pleasanton. They also have an online portal for drillers. Contact them early when buying land or starting any construction that involves a well.
