Many Wise County Roads Are Farm-to-Market Roads With Low-Water Crossings

Farm-to-market roads serve most of rural Wise County, and some low-water crossings can flood and close after heavy rain.

TxDOT maintains a network of Farm-to-Market (FM) roads across Wise County. These roads link small towns and rural homes. Many of them cross creeks on low-water concrete crossings rather than full bridges.

Low-water crossings flood fast in heavy rain. Even a few inches of moving water can push a vehicle off the road. Never drive through water covering the road. Turn around and find another way.

If you live on a rural road in Wise County, know which crossings are between you and town. After a heavy storm, some crossings can stay flooded for hours. For current road closures statewide, check DriveTexas.org, which is TxDOT's official road conditions site.
