Bay Fishing
Galveston Bay Is One of the Top Fishing Spots Near Houston
Galveston Bay borders the southeast edge of Harris County and offers saltwater fishing for speckled trout, redfish, and flounder.
Galveston Bay is a large estuary. The Harris County side has bank access, boat ramps, and pier fishing along the shoreline near Baytown and other communities. TPWD posts weekly fishing reports for the bay at tpwd.texas.gov.
Because Galveston Bay is classified as saltwater, you need a Texas fishing license with a saltwater endorsement to fish there. Some interior Harris County waters like Lake Burke-Crenshaw and Lake Nassau are classified as freshwater, requiring a freshwater endorsement instead. Check the TPWD Freshwater/Saltwater Boundary page for specific boundaries. Licenses are available online at tpwd.texas.gov.
