Water Wells

A local district regulates groundwater wells

Jeff Davis County has its own underground water conservation district. You may need a permit before drilling a well.

The Jeff Davis County Underground Water Conservation District manages groundwater across the county. It is part of Groundwater Management Area 4. That area covers five Far West Texas counties.

The district can require a permit before you drill a well. It may also limit how much water you pump. Rules cover well spacing and how a well must be built.

If you plan to drill a water well on rural land, contact the district first. Their rules can affect your plans and your budget.

The Texas Water Development Board keeps the district's management plan. That plan sets goals for long-term water supply in the area. You can find contact information through the Texas Water Development Board groundwater district list.
