Two offices handle property taxes here: one appraises your land, and a separate office collects what you owe.
The Jeff Davis County Appraisal District sets the value of your property. It is located at 100 Court Ave. in Fort Davis. The appraiser determines what your land and home are worth for tax purposes. You go here to protest your value or apply for exemptions.
The Tax Assessor-Collector is a separate office at 105 Court Ave., also in Fort Davis. That office sends the tax bills and collects payments. In Jeff Davis County, the sheriff also serves as tax assessor-collector. There are only two school districts in the county: Fort Davis ISD and Valentine ISD.
