A Groundwater District Regulates Water Wells Here

If you plan to drill a water well in Collingsworth County, you must work with the Mesquite Groundwater Conservation District first.

Collingsworth County sits in the Mesquite Groundwater Conservation District (MGCD). The district was created by the 69th Texas Legislature in 1985 and confirmed by local voters in November 1986. The aquifers managed here are the Seymour, Blaine, and Whitehorse Group aquifers. Most rural water in the county comes from these underground sources.

Before you drill a new well, contact the MGCD to learn what permits are required. The district sets rules on well spacing, pump capacity, and reporting. Well yields in this area vary depending on where you drill — check with the district or the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) for well records in your specific location.
