A groundwater district regulates water wells in Cooke County

The North Texas Groundwater Conservation District covers Cooke County and may require permits or registrations for new water wells on rural property.

If you want to drill a water well on rural land in Cooke County, a special agency has rules you must follow. That agency is the North Texas Groundwater Conservation District (NTGCD). It covers Cooke, Collin, and Denton counties.

A groundwater conservation district (GCD) is a local body that manages the underground water supply. The NTGCD can require a permit before you drill. It can also limit how much water you pump and require you to register your well.

Water supply in this area is under stress. If you plan to count on a private well for your land, call the NTGCD first. Ask about permit rules, current water conditions, and which underground water source your land would use. Check the official NTGCD website for the latest requirements.
