Many Rural Properties in Upshur County Rely on Private Wells

Homes outside city limits in Upshur County often use private water wells, which are tracked by the Texas Water Development Board.

Outside Gilmer and other incorporated areas, many homes get water from private groundwater wells. The TWDB maintains a database of well records for Upshur County, including well depth, water levels, and water quality data. Well records in Upshur County are tracked in the Cypress River Basin.

If you are buying rural property, ask about the well — its depth, age, and last water quality test. A licensed well driller or inspector can assess it. The TCEQ also has an online Water Well Report Viewer that shows historical well data by location. Check with TCEQ or TWDB for well records before closing on raw land.
