Check the Daily Air Quality Forecast Before Going Outside in Harris County

TCEQ posts a daily air quality forecast for the Houston area that tells you whether ozone levels may be unhealthy.

On hot, sunny days with low wind, ozone in Harris County can reach unhealthy levels. TCEQ uses a color-coded system to show how bad the air is. Green means good. Yellow means moderate. Orange means unhealthy for sensitive groups. Red means unhealthy — some members of the general public may experience effects, with sensitive groups more seriously affected. Purple means very unhealthy for everyone. Maroon means hazardous.

People with asthma, older adults, and children should stay inside or limit hard outdoor activity on Orange and Red days. Ozone is worst in the morning and early afternoon. Check the forecast at tceq.texas.gov before you head out for a run or yard work. Some school districts in Harris County also change their outdoor activity plans on high-ozone days.
