Homestead Exemption
Lower Your Tax Bill with a Homestead Exemption
If your home in Colorado County is your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that lowers the taxable value of your property.
A homestead exemption cuts the value used to figure your property tax bill. You can only claim it on one Texas property. It must be where you actually live.
Seniors and people with disabilities may qualify for extra exemptions on top of the basic one.
You apply once with the Colorado County Appraisal District (CCAD). The general statewide deadline is April 30. Confirm the exact date with CCAD each year before you file. After you apply, the exemption renews on its own as long as you keep living in the home. Get the current form at coloradocad.org.
