Homestead Exemption
Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill
If your home in Harrison County is your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption that reduces how much of its value is taxed.
Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 reduction on their home's taxable value. Other taxing units — like the county or a city — can offer additional reductions on top of that. Seniors and disabled homeowners may qualify for even more.
You apply once with the Harrison Central Appraisal District at harrisoncad.net. You generally must file by April 30 of the year you want the exemption to apply, but check the appraisal district website for the current deadline. You must own the home and live in it as your primary residence.
